1-on-1 mentors commit to 4 points of contact (two face-to-face and two call/text) per month for 1 year with the hope of a long term commitment. Our current program has over 50 students from West and South Dallas.
Mentoring builds a child’s self-esteem, confidence, spiritual growth, better performance at school, and healthier relationships. Plus, everyone gets to have FUN TOGETHER!
Our mentors are caring, Christian adults recruited from local churches, businesses and word of mouth.
Mentors complete 2 hours of training on safety and best practices and a pre-match small group training. We require our mentors to participate in ongoing training throughout the length of the match.
Mentors have gone through a criminal background check, 2 references, submitted an application, an interview, and abide by strict rules to keep your child safe.
We check in with mentors and families every other month to offer oversight and support. Our full-time mentoring staff is always available to hear concerns, answer questions, and encourage both mentors and mentees.
Join along with a couple other people who are also desiring to become mentors for a focused learning time. You’ll have plenty of time to ask any questions you might have and hear all about mentoring.
One of our mentor coordinators will reach out to you to set up a time to meet at Mercy Street. We’ll get to know each other better.
A match party will be set up and facilitated by your mentor coordinator to introduce the new mentee and family to the new mentor… and the mentoring relationship begins!
WHAT OUR MENTEES HAVE TO SAY "My mentor is like a role model to me. She taught me how to act like a lady and how to have confidence. I really do think having mentors is worth it. She’s like a sister."
