Mauricio & Alex

Mutual Transformation in Action

"I see Alex as part of my family."

— Mauricio, Mercy Street Mentor

Meet Mauricio and his mentee, Alex. Mauricio and his wife recently welcomed their first child into their family during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Mauricio says, “It was like we couldn’t share the joy with the people we loved the most”. However, that changed when Alex texted Mauricio and asked to bring over a gift for the baby. Not only did Alex come meet the baby, he brought his entire family!

“It felt like a milestone in our relationship,” Mauricio explains. “I never saw myself serving with teenagers or kids before. So originally, it was a challenge. Now, I wish I could see him more! I see Alex and his family as part of my family”.

On being asked what Alex has gotten from his relationship with Mauricio, he explains: “What’s happening right now is my parents aren’t together. [Mauricio] has been teaching me how God is always there for me.”

Mauricio used the example of the Potter and the clay to encourage Alex to keep trusting in the Lord. God forms us like clay, and when we experience heat but trust in the Potter’s hands, we will come out on the other side stronger.

Mercy Street Mentoring is all about the mutual transformation between mentors and mentees. As they pursue the Lord together, they both grow more into His likeness.
